Preparation Course & A Career in the Law Enforcement
Overview: This course gives a behind the scenes look at criminal law. It will help the student understand all major areas of crime (see Lesson Outline below). Each Lesson is presented taking a View from the Inside — compelling information about the criminal justice system, in the words of actual people who experience it every day i.e. those who work in the field.
Course Structure: For most people who are pursuing a career in law enforcement one major hurdle is ensuring that they have the basic required documents / information necessary for processing. This course requires the student to put together a portfolio that includes this basic information.

- State Issued ID
- Social Security Card
- GED or High School Diploma
- Background and Drug Screen
- Prior 10 years of work and residency information
Texas is growing in Spanish speaking populations: This course includes a basic Spanish fundamentals section, where student will practice using basic Spanish phrases to communicate with Spanish-speaking victims, witnesses, or criminals. Including how to use basic Spanish to navigate these situations and will help the student master basic Spanish for law enforcement situations.
Course Length: The course is 6 weeks (student can finish quicker – self paced, and they pass the final exam) It also includes a job readiness component, case management and wrap around referral services, and assistance with job placement.
